The questions parents ask me, answered honestly.
HeelCurve started as a series of parking-lot conversations. Families a year or two into hockey would find me after a skate with the same questions: is this camp worth the money, who actually decides what happens to my kid next season, what should we be doing right now that nobody has mentioned to us.
Those are the right questions. They are also nearly impossible to answer from outside the sport. Hockey is a far smaller world than it appears from the lobby — the people who make decisions about your player mostly know each other, the opportunities worth having are rarely posted anywhere, and timing matters more than families are ever told. A parent new to it has no way to sort real guidance from a sales pitch, which is exactly what gets sold to them.
I have spent my career inside that world as a coach. None of that makes me right about your kid — but it does mean I have sat with a lot of families through these decisions, and I can help you think through what to ask, what is worth chasing, and what tends to cost a great deal and lead nowhere. For years I handed that out one conversation at a time, which helped whoever happened to catch me and nobody else.
So I built the written version — an honest read on the player in front of me, and the specific work that should come next, in the order it should happen. Every engagement is one player, one family, and my own read. That limits how many I can take at a time, and I'd rather keep it that way than turn this into a program.
